Going Green,Going Vertical, and the Future of Business in Wholesale

All the talk these days is about green technology, and sustainable energy solutions that allow greater efforts to be made in protecting the environment, while turning a profit, too. It sounds great, but the fact is that most of this technology is still in the developmental stages, and there will be a long way to go before truly green solutions become the norm. This could be good news for wholesalers and distributors looking for discounted goods, since the rise of green energy goods will undoubtedly begin phasing out traditional items that no longer suit cutting-edge markets. That’s right, just like the big drive to sell discounted computer hardware in the 1990′s, we’re going to be looking at opportunities for wholesalers to find real steals as green technology makes advances in the years to come.

I seem to remember a lot of wholesalers having a banner year on getting unreal deals on electronics and other technology devices when the switch became clear that hard drives with moving parts were going to start disappearing as the new chip-based storage mediums gained traction. But that’s nothing; the pile of monitors on the floors of computer depots were growing to truly impressive heights, as LCD screens started pushing their way into a market that was primed and ready for change. Now, with green technology the new catch-phrase on headlines these days, there will undoubtedly be a rush to grab the latest and most energy-efficient versions of what we use today… and the old stuff will have to go somewhere, won’t it?

One of the best things you can do to help anticipate the changes is to follow the news of course. However, there isn’t really enough time in a day to do the things you already do, and following every advance may take you one small step forward, but it will not necessarily take you far enough to make any buying decisions or major changes in your strategy as a wholesaler. Looking for vertical sites that cater to green technology is a wise choice, and it will increase the chance of finding others who are on the same path as you are, giving you the advantage when you see what’s coming down the pipeline, and what goods will be making retailers upgrade their inventories next. With this kind of info at your fingertips, you will be in a good position to make the right move when the prices drop on goods that were once giving buyers sticker shock, and perhaps even spreading them out over a global market, rather than just within a local one that has been buying them up in the past. In fact, I would keep my eye on developing nations and other markets that are getting poised and ready to start buying as they grow their consumer bases and prepare to become the next big players in retail. Better to start looking into it early, rather than playing catch-up once the others have already made their bids during the  period of buying low, which may be coming sooner than any of us think!
