Hoozdooz Wants to Save the Garment Industry!

There’s no doubt about it, we’ve seen the best of times come and go, when it comes to the New York Garment District being the champ of fashion’s apparel manufacturing base. Now, it’s not as though the District is about to turn on its side and release one final, exhausted breath… but things have slowed down a bit, and there are a lot of foreign apparel manufacturer options out there, making things even harder for the US to get back on its feet in this industry. With a drop in production for the domestic market going from about 95% of American clothing being made for American consumers in 1965, to a measly 5% in 2009, it’s been a fast ride to the bottom, and it might even seem like a recovery or reconstruction would be nearly impossible. However, the one huge advantage that we have these days is the improved access to communications through the Internet, and better means of moving goods by dropshipping. With these devices now available to anyone who wants to build a better garment and apparel manufacturing base in the USA, it just might be the ticket to helping the country’s garment industry back on its feet.

Hoozdooz.com, an exciting new company that positions itself to be the world’s newest garment center, has been started because of an industry-wide call for help in finding goods and items that are needed when it comes to fashion related listings. Thankfully, Hoozdooz.com is here to fill that void. The company was started to create a channel to connect professionals in the apparel and garment industry across the board of both the fashion and creative industries, to create a virtual common marketplace for all to connect and trade within. Hoozdooz.com has been getting a lot of attention lately, even though they are just a budding enterprise. HBO has featured them in a recent documentary called Schmatta: Rags to Riches to Rags, giving perspective on how much the New York Garment District has lost its hold as the leader for American apparel manufacturing. By building a community backing, the company has great potential to make a remarkably large positive impact on the fashion and creative industries.

Some one needs to save this dying industry. People need to step out of their box, we don’t do business the same way any more and if we don’t adapt then we will lose the garment center. I remember when I first started in this industry you would see the rolling racks going down the street, there was an excitement in the air. Now every street that you turn down there is a for rent sign.
Why is it that only the manufacturer when they make a mistake has the means to get rid of the goods? No one wants to admit they have made a mistake or bought too much but why as a buyer can’t I try and job my goods to another store? Well maybe now I can. I have been on the Hoozdooz site and I love the concept of the “Craig’s List” for the garment industry. I think people need to get on the site and use it more often. My company uses the site to post jobs and I hope that more people jump on and see what Hoozdooz can do for them.

I think this is what a lot of fashion professionals have been looking for. There are a lot of competing sites out there but none with this particular mix of offerings. I think once word gets out, this site will become huge.
