In a shocking move, and one that will leave Tiger Woods searching for a new place to get golf clubs, Nike has decided to cut out of the club making business for golf. The equipment giant stated that it will instead only focus on golf shoes, clothing and less on clubs, bags and balls. There are several players who currently use Nike clubs including the already-mentioned Woods, as well as Rory McIlroy and Michelle Wie. Woods has stated he will be moving to a different clubmaker now. It is not known which clubmaker he will choose. Nike stated in its very short press release that it wants to move forward in the clothing business and away from equipment. Nike has not been in the golf equipment business for very long. It was in 1999 that the company began to sell golf balls, and in May 2000 they nabbed Tiger Woods who began to use their products. Currently though, the company does not have a dominant share in the golf marketplace.
