Ralph Lauren brings fashion and style together with the latest technology with his introduction of the smart shirt. Lauren is jumping on the bandwagon of offering wearable technology by creating a shirt capable of collecting a series of data and presenting it to the wearer. The new PoloTech shirt is sure to prove a lasting innovation, and other companies will attempt to keep pace with the fashion giant responsible for its creation. So what kind of data does the PoloTech ™ shirt offer? It can tell the wearer the individual’s heart rate, breathing depth and balance, steps taken, activity level, and the amount of calories one burns. All of the stats get streamlined to a special app that works with the shirt alone. This shirt, which retails for nearly $300.00, has silver fibers woven through it. It is also fitted with a 3D accelerometer capable of interpreting important biometric information and sharing it with the wearer. The app that works with the shirt is only available in US app stores at this time. Of course Lauren ensures the fashion element remains central to the shirt’s design, as it is fitted with flat seams to reduce friction against the skin, and it is snug because of its size down design. In a belt like design in the middle of the shirt is a strip of fabric containing the silver fibers. A removable black box attaches to the shirt to pick up on and interpret the biometrics. The shirt is available in sizes small through extra large. The PoloTech™ shirt is a compression fit shirt to help in improving circulatory processes in the body. It has been made of machine washable materials as well. Talk and a prototype for this shirt were out last year, and now in the summer of 2015 the shirt has finally arrived. The company responsible for the technological aspects of the shirt is OMSignal , a Canadian-based company. The shirt is available for sale at the fashion designer’s flagship store in NYC, and at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Online sales are also available at RalphLauren.com .
