1- Visit Netgear Nighthawk Router login page.

To reset your router using the Reset button:

  1. Verify that your router’s Power light is on.
  2. On the back of your router, locate the Reset button.
  3. Use a paper clip or similar object to press and hold the Reset button for up to thirty seconds.
  4. Release the Reset button.
    Your router resets.

To reset your router using the router web interface:

  1. Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device that is connected to your router’s network.
  2. Enter www.routerlogin.net.
    A login window displays.
  3. Enter the router admin user name and password.
    The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified the first time that you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
    The Dashboard displays.
  4. Select Settings > Administration > Backup Settings.
  5. Click the Erase button.
  6. Select Yes.
    Your router reboots.

  1. Remove the cap from each antenna, then screw the antennas into the posts on the back of the router.

    If the modem has a battery backup, remove the battery from the device.

  3. Connect the ethernet cable to the yellow port on the back of the router.
  4. Connect the other end of the ethernet cable to the modem.
  5. Plug the modem into power to turn it back on.
  6. Press the power button on the router to turn it on.

  8. On an iPad or other device, connect to the router's WiFi network.

    The network name (SSID) and password (network key) are printed on the bottom of the Nighthawk.

  9. Open a web browser and wait for the NETGEAR genie to automatically load.

    If the genie does not load, visit www.routerlogin.net

  10. If prompted, log in with the admin username and password.

    The default username is admin and the default password is password. The NETGEAR genie will prompt you to change this information during step 11.

  11. Follow the on-screen prompts to finish setting up the Nighthawk.

After initial setup, log in to the router to change the network name, create a guest network, and configure other router settings.

  1. Connect to the router's WiFi network from an iPad or other device.
  2. Open a web browser and visit www.routerlogin.net.
  3. Enter the admin username and password.
  4. Select an option on the Basic homepage to configure the router's settings.

Network Names & Passwords

Change the names and passwords of the Nighthawk’s WiFi networks so you can easily identify them and connect your registers.

  1. On the Basic homepage, tap 'Wireless'.

  2. Enter a name, select a security type, and choose a password for the router's 2.4GHz network.

Create a Guest Network

If you want to offer internet access to customers, create a guest network. That way, customers can connect without accessing your secure private network.

  1. On the Basic homepage, tap 'Guest Network'.

  3. (Optional) Choose a security type and enter a password.

    Leave security set to ‘None’ if you do not want guests to have to enter a password.

Reset the Router

If you run into problems while setting up or using the Nighthawk, you can reset it to factory settings.

Resetting the Nighthawk reverts the network names and passwords, admin login, and all other settings back to factory defaults.
